Need A Car Insurance Comparison? Don’t Have Time?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:21 am

If you decide not to do a car insurance comparison and simply renew your insurance at the same rate, you could be paying away needless amounts of your hard-earned money. By doing a car insurance comparison, you could get a cheaper rate than what you are presently paying.

A car insurance comparison rate is quite easy to do from home on your computer. This way you don’t have to spend time during the day contacting the various insurance companies during their business hours. You can sit down at any time of the night and do the car insurance comparison yourself by requesting free quotes from the various online car insurance companies.

Most of the online insurance sites will return a free quote as to the rate they charge for your insurance needs within 24 hours. It is best to request at least three quotes so you can do a car insurance comparison when you get them. If you print them off, then you can sit back with your coffee and do a car insurance comparison of the rates. Take your time and make sure you are actually doing a comparison of the same types of coverage.

Another way you can get the car insurance comparison you need without spending too much time on the computer is to contact an online car insurance broker. Using a broker takes all the work out of car insurance comparison. Rates vary from company to company and some of them give discounts for certain things.

You may find when doing a car insurance comparison that some companies give a discount if you are over age 50. Others might have a discount if you have a perfect driving record and still others may offer a discount if you work in a certain industry or if you do not drive your car to work. It does pay to shop around for a car insurance comparison rate.

The type of car you have will affect the quote you get with a car insurance comparison rate. A sports car will cost you more in insurance, as will city driving as opposed to all rural driving where there is less traffic and therefore less chance of having an accident. There are some companies that will give you a break if you have had accidents in the past. If you have several vehicles, you need to do a car insurance comparison to find a company that will give you a lower rate when you insure all the vehicles under the same policy. Shop around and don’t be afraid to ask questions about the company and its system of rates that it charges. Although some people say knowledge can be dangerous, it will save you money when it comes to getting car insurance.

Do a car insurance comparison, you may be surprised.

Hiking Boots – Cleaning, Care, And Maintenance Of Your Most Important Piece Of Hiking Equipment

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:14 pm

Good quality hiking boots are an investment that can be expected to last a long time, but only if you take care of them. This article will tell you how to take proper care of your hiking boots, from breaking them in to having them resoled, so you will get the most value for your investment.

In this article, I will discuss five main points of proper care and maintenance of your hiking boots:

1. Breaking them in.

2. Waterproofing.

3. Cleaning and general maintenance.

4. Resoling.

5. Knowing when they’ve had it.

Breaking In your Hiking Boots

The purpose of breaking in your hiking boots is to soften them so they will not hurt your feet. They must be made flexible at exactly the places where your feet and ankles bend. The best way to do this is to walk in them. The goal of breaking in your hiking boots is to do it in short walks, so you don’t find yourself in the middle of the wilderness with blisters and an inflexible pair of hiking boots.

Hiking shoes or day-hiking boots might not need any break-in, but try it just to be sure. Very heavy hiking boots might not actually break in, but wearing them will make your feet grow tougher in the places where the boots refuse to bend.

In either case, what you want to do is to wear your new hiking boots for short periods of time. Wear them around the house, on your morning walk, on your way to work and back (or wear them at work, if your job does not require a lot of walking and if dress codes permit). Wear them on short hikes.

Once the boots are properly broken in, they will feel comfortable as you walk. Then you’re ready to take them on a serious hike.

You may have heard of leaving your new hiking boots out in the weather, or soaking them and wearing them as they dry out, or other drastic and exotic techniques for breaking them in. If it seems like a bad idea, that’s because it is. Break them in gently, and they will last much longer.

Waterproofing your Hiking Boots

Most hiking boots are already waterproof when you buy them, but you still have to do some additional waterproofing. Check the manufacturer’s recommendation, either in documentation that came with the boots or on their Web site.

Different materials require different kinds of waterproofing. Leather, whether full grain or split, requires a wax-based waterproofing compound (which is exactly what shoe polish is). Fabric, especially nylon blends, requires silicone-based waterproofing spray.

Since most hiking boots are made of a combination of leather and fabric, you will have to use both types of waterproofing. And be careful, because the silicone-based sprays can be harmful to the glued seams of leather hiking boots. The best approach for such dual-material hiking boots is to spray the silicone-based waterproofing on the fabric panels while shielding the leather, then spray the wax-based waterproofing on the leather panels and the seams.

If you have full grain leather hiking boots, you can either use a wax-based waterproofing spray or old-fashioned shoe polish. Shoe polish works best on the seams, as you can put it on extra thick and work it into the seams and stitching.

Before you first use them, and after each major hike, clean your boots thoroughly and give them a full waterproofing treatment. Hiking shoes, worn infrequently, might need the waterproofing treatment just once a year or so, but use your judgment. If you see new scuff or wear marks after a hike, reapply the waterproofing.

Cleaning and General Maintenance of your Hiking Boots

Clean off the mud and dust from your hiking boots after each day of hiking. Each time you stop for a major break on a hike, check your boots and remove any excess mud or dust. To clean your boots while hiking or camping, just kick against a rock, bang your boots together, or scrape with a stick if necessary.

If you let the mud dry on your boots, it will both leach out the waterproofing and soak into the boot. This slowly destroys leather, and it’s not good for nylon, either.

Once you get home, or at least every few days on a protracted backpacking trek, wipe your boots with a damp cloth. Be sure to get off all the foreign matter, so there is nothing to interfere with the waterproofing chemicals, and so you can inspect them for damage.

If a seam is coming undone, cut off any dangling threads. If the dangling thread catches on something, the seam will simply come undone that much faster. Depending on the extent of the damage and the cost of the boots, you might want to bring them to a cobbler for repairs, or simply apply extra shoe polish to hold the loose ends in place and to ensure that the seam is waterproof.

If your boots have gotten soaked, dry them out slowly. Rapid drying will make the leather parts shrink and pull away from the fabric parts and from the rubber sole. Pack the damp boots full of wadded newspapers, and replace the newspapers every few hours until the boots are dry.

In between hikes, a pair of shoe trees will help your boots to hold their shape. And this will be very important to your comfort on your next hike.

Resoling your Hiking Boots

If you have a good pair of backpacking boots, you can have the soles replaced when they wear out. This will cost anywhere from $40.00 to $80.00.

Hiking shoes or day-hiking boots are not worth resoling. Generally, the uppers will wear out as fast as the soles, but even if the uppers appear to be in good shape, the cost just doesn’t make sense.

Look for an experienced cobbler in your town to resole your boots. There are services on the Web that will do this, too, but the shipping costs add considerably to the overall cost. The main benefit is that all such services guarantee their work. If you don’t know a cobbler you can trust with your precious hiking boots, search for “boot resole” on the Web.

After your hiking boots have been resoled, they will be like a new pair. That means you must break them in again.

Knowing When your Hiking Boots are Worn Out

Inspect your hiking boots for wear, and recognize when it’s time to replace them or, if they are worth it, to invest in major repairs.

The most obvious wear point is the tread. Sometimes the tread will be visibly worn, such that the cracks between the knobs of the tread are not deep enough to provide traction. On some hiking boots, you will discover that there are two layers within the sole, and after the softer portion wears through, you are walking on a harder inner portion that does not provide good traction on hard rock.

Another common wear point is the inside of the scree collar (the padding around the top that keeps pebbles out without chafing your Achilles tendon). If the lining has worn through and the foam padding has been exposed, your hiking boots must be repaired or replaced promptly.

Check the lining of the sole of your hiking boots. Very often, you will find a hole wearing through under your heel or toe. (Removable insoles can prevent this, but be sure to replace the insoles regularly.) Such a hole will soon begin causing blisters.

In some hiking boots, the uppers will begin to wear at the seams. You may find that the seams are coming apart very rapidly, as friction between the panels makes the fabric weaker, allowing even more movement and more friction.

Hiking shoes and day-hiking boots may fail by the sole separating from the uppers. If this happens before the shoes have begun showing other serious signs of wear, take it as a lesson: Avoid that brand in the future. If it happens in conjunction with other failures, well, it’s just time for a new pair of hiking boots.

If your hiking boots contain both leather and fabric, you may find that the leather has slowly stretched from the constant tension of the laces. The fabric will begin to wrinkle as the leather stretches away from it. Once this begins, seam failure will soon follow.

Another problem with stretching leather is that your hiking boots may reach a point where you can no longer tighten them! I have only seen this once, on a pair of split leather day-hiking boots. (Hated to see them go.)

Full-grain leather, properly cared for, is almost indestructible. If not properly cared for, it will crack. There’s not much you can do but replace the boots, and try to take better care of the next pair.

Conclusion

Take care of your hiking boots, and they’ll take care of you. Keep them clean, waterproof them with the manufacturer’s recommended waterproofing compound, and they will serve you for thousands of miles on the trail.

Protecting the Smallest Member of Your Family: A Step-by-step Guide to Pet Insurance

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:15 pm

Let’s face it – Fido and Fluffy are an important part of your family. Do you want to have to assign a dollar value to them if they become sick or injured?

That may well be the case if you don’t have pet health insurance. Rising veterinary costs mean that pet owners can pay hundreds – and even thousands – of dollars for their pets’ health problems. As the bills stack up, uninsured pet owners must determine how much they are willing to spend on their animal friend. It can be a heartbreaking decision to make.

Much like insurance for health, cars and homes, pet insurance helps people put a little money away now to avoid a major payout later. Coverage and cost vary, so it’s important to thoroughly research the options if you decide to insure your pet.

Step one: Determine if Pet Insurance is Right for You

When people decide to get a pet, they often don’t consider how they will deal with the inevitable unexpected illnesses or accidents. Keeping a pet indoors by no means eliminates all the hazards. They can still swallow foreign objects, ingest a poison or injure themselves. As well, living indoors does not make a pet immune to disease and infection – particularly those that are common to their breed. Pets with access to the outdoors have even more opportunities to pick up a disease or get hurt.

Don’t have a dog or cat? Insurance companies are starting to offer plans that meet the needs of a variety of pet owners. Some now offer coverage for birds and exotic animals.

Not all owners are good candidates for pet insurance, however. Pet insurance is ideal for owners who deeply love their pets and are willing to spend a significant amount of money to keep them healthy and extend their life. They buy their cherished companions the best food and care they can afford, sometimes even putting their pets’ needs before their own. For this type of owner, pet insurance can be a smart investment that can prevent considerable costs and bring peace of mind.

Pet insurance is not a good investment for owners who don’t have a strong emotional tie to their pet. Owners who would rather have their pets euthanized than spend money on vet bills are not good candidates for pet insurance.

Step two: Decide What Type of Coverage You Want

Most pet owners will weigh two main considerations when shopping for pet insurance: budget and coverage. Peace of mind can also be an important factor, but far more difficult to quantify.

Pet health insurance is still relatively new in the United States and Canada, so the options available are fewer than for other forms of insurance. That said, North American pet owners can choose from a variety of coverage choices, ranging from injury/accident-only to all-inclusive.

As with all insurance products, the cost of pet insurance increases as the coverage improves. As a pet owner, you must decide what is the right balance between affordability and the care you want for your pet.

- Coverage

When choosing pet insurance coverage, first consider what kind of insurance customer you are. Do you prefer all-inclusive coverage that pays for everything from routine checkups and vaccinations to accidents and chronic illnesses, or are you comfortable with a lesser degree of coverage that just kicks in during emergencies? Perhaps you prefer a flexible plan that offers discounts on a wide range of services, from veterinary care to training. This decision will lay the groundwork for your final choice.

Some issues to consider:

* Make sure to check for coverage of pre-existing conditions as well as breed-specific genetic ailments, such as hip dysplasia for large dogs. Some plans refuse to cover these conditions.

* Some plans place limits on annual, per-incident, per-illness or lifetime costs.

* How old is your pet? Coverage usually starts at eight weeks, but some plans won’t cover pets over a certain age (usually between six and 10 years old, depending on the breed, type of animal and other factors).

- Cost

Payment options for pet insurance include flat fees or deductibles and/or co-payments. Not surprisingly, plans with lower monthly premiums come with higher deductibles and/or larger co-payments.

Some issues to consider:

* Insurance premiums are affected by the age, health and breed of your pet, as well as the type of animal.

* Some plans offers discounts for multiple pets.

* Plans generally require customers to pay the vet bill first and then submit receipts for reimbursement.

* Find out if the insurance premiums will increase as your pet ages.

* Depending on the plan you choose, the monthly premiums can range from less than $10 to about $40.

Step three: Choose an Insurer

You’ve determined what you can afford to spend and the amount of pet insurance coverage you want.

Before selecting an insurer, here are some final considerations:

* Make a list of your questions and priorities in advance. Make sure to answer or check off each item when reviewing plan options.

* Research the insurer thoroughly. Review its website and sales materials, read its testimonials, talk to other pet owners and look for on-line reviews. How long has the company been in business? Are its customers satisfied? Make sure you feel comfortable about everything you hear or read.

* Compare the plan’s benefit schedule with your vet’s fees to determine to what degree the plan will cover the actual treatment costs.

* Find out how quickly the insurance company reimburses customers’ claim payments and if it has claim deadlines.

* Read the fine print. Make sure you completely understand the plan’s benefits and, more importantly, the limitations. If something isn’t clear, ask – and get the answer in writing. Otherwise, you might find you don’t have the coverage you need if an accident occurs.

* Start a file for your pet. Use it for all receipts and insurance paperwork so you can keep on top of your claims and make sure you are maximizing your insurance investment.

Your responsibility as a pet owner doesn’t end with food, shelter and affection. Pet health insurance can give the smallest member of your family a longer and healthier life – and provide you with more time to enjoy the unconditional love it so willingly offers to you.

What Is Cat Secret Talk?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:01 am

Most of us are familiar with a variety of cat sounds, including meows, hissing, growls and purrs. A meow can mean anything from “I want food” to “will you play with me?” to “hello there”. Some cats, such as Siamese cats, are much more vocal than others. No one knows exactly how the purring sound is made but it usually indicates contentment. Hissing and growling usually mean the cat feels threatened or unhappy about something. Cats, especially very young ones, might make these sounds when playing too.

Cats rarely meow when communicating amongst themselves. They use a combination of body language, tail movement, scent and eye contact. When communicating with humans, cats differ their sounds by rhythm, intensity, pitch, tone and volume, so we can take a reasonable guess at what they are trying to say.

Cats sometimes use sounds when communicating with one another too. If a kitten wanders off, the mother cat might meow loudly and clearly to call her offspring back to safety. A cat might hiss or growl if another cat or intrudes on its territory. A cat enjoying some prey it has hunted will also use these sounds to warn off another cat coming too close.

Cat Sense of Smell and Communication

A cat’s sense of smell is acute and highly developed. It is used in several ways to facilitate communication. Two cats living together will sniff each other several times a day. This tells the cats where the other has been, what they have been doing, what they have recently eaten and whether they came into contact with another animal. Cats detect pheromones left by other cats, usually when marking territory. If a cat could talk, it might ask these things verbally but a few sniffs tell them everything they need to know.

Cats living together often groom one another. This provides social interaction, removes parasites and keeps the fur clean. A mother cat recognises the scent of her own kittens and grooms them often to provide comfort, keep them clean and encourage bowel movements.

Cat Talk and Hierarchy

Hierarchy amongst cats is determined by the outcomes of social interactions between the cats. Some factors determining hierarchy include gender, the environment, reproductive status, age, size, aggressiveness and submissiveness.

Hierarchy between cats is different to hierarchy between dogs. Dogs are pack animals and exhibit dominant actions, such as growls, stares or body checks. Cats, on the other hand, don’t live or hunt in packs. If two or more cats live together, the hierarchy might be present but humans might not recognise the subtle dominance signals and cat secret talk is used to decide hierarchy. One sure-fire way to upset a hierarchy is to introduce a new cat. The newcomer’s status is unclear so the other cats will use their secret communication to sort the situation out.

Cat Communication and Territory

Cats are territorial animals. Their territory is usually a combination of places they share with other cats and other places they consider theirs and their alone. A cat marks its territory by urinating, scratching or rubbing its body on an object. Other cats can see these marks as clearly as signposts, telling them which other cat’s territory they are in. Cats can detect pheromones in urine or from a place where another cat has rubbed itself.

With so many ways of determining territory, hierarchy and much more, cats hardly need words!

Institutional Reforms In The Higher Education Sector Of Mozambique And Ethical Issues

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:01 pm

The need to eradicate poverty through increased literacy

One of the central goals defined by the Government of Mozambique in its long-term development strategy is “poverty reduction through labour-intensive economic growth”. The highest priority is assigned to reduce poverty in rural areas, where 90 percent of poor Mozambicans live, and also in urban zones. The Government recognizes also that, for this development strategy on poverty eradication to succeed, expansion and improvement in the education system are critically important elements in both long-term and short-term perspectives.

In the long term, universal access to education of acceptable quality is essential for the development

of Mozambique´s human resources, and the economic growth will depend to a significant extend on the education and training of the labour force. It is very important to develop a critical mass of well trained and highly qualified workforce which in turn will improve the overall literacy, intellectual development, training capacity and technical skills in various areas of the country’s economic and industrial development.

In the short term, increased access and improved quality in basic education are powerful mechanisms for wealth redistribution and the promotion of social equity. This policy is consistent with the provisions of the new Constitution of Mozambique adopted on 16 November 2004, in its articles 113 and 114 which deal respectively with education and higher education. Around the year 1990, the Government of Mozambique decided to change its social, economic and political orientation system from the centrally-planned system inherited from the communist era and adopted a western-style of free market system. At the same time, it was also decided to adopt fundamental changes in the education programmes. Since drastic changes and wide ranging effects were resulting from the adoption of the new economic and political orientation, it was necessary to provide new guidelines and rules governing the management of institutions of higher education.

The struggle continues: “a luta continua” !

The economic and political changes were progressively introduced with success through legislative and regulatory reforms. However, it has not been very easy to evenly change rules of social and cultural behaviour. In particular, vulnerable younger generations are the most affected by the rapid changes in society, while the reference model and values they expect from elder people in the modern Mozambican society seem to be shifting very fast. And in some instances, there seem to be no model at all. The new wave of economic liberalism in Mozambique, better defined by the popular concept of “deixa andar”, literally meaning “laisser-faire”, was mistakenly adopted as the guiding principle in the areas of social, cultural and education development.

The “laisser-faire” principle is better understood by economists and entrepreneurs in a system of open market and free entrepreneurship, under which the Government’s intervention is reduced to exercising minimum regulatory agency. The recent considerable economic growth realized by the Government of Mozambique (10% of successive growth index over four years) is attributed mainly to this free market policy. This principle should be carefully differentiated from “laisser-aller” which, in French language, rather means lack of discipline in academic, economic, social and cultural environments.

Reforming higher education institutions represents a real challenge, both at the institutional and pedagogic levels, not only in Mozambique, but elsewhere and in particular in African countries faced with the problem of “acculturation”. The youth seeking knowledge opportunities in national universities, polytechnics and higher institutes, where students are somehow left on their own, having no longer any need to be under permanent supervision of their parents or teachers, are disoriented. Since reforms in higher education institutions take longer than in any other institutional environment, it is necessary indeed to adopt adequate transitional measures to respond to urgent need of the young generations.

This essay reviews current trends and the recent historical background of higher education institutions of Mozambique. It argues against the adoption of the classical model of higher education from European and other western systems. In its final analysis, it finds that there is need to include ethical and deontology (social, cultural and moral education) components as priority sectors within the curriculum in higher education institutions, with a view to instill in the students and lecturers positive African values in general, and in particular, national Mozambican models. It is rejecting the neo-liberal thinking, which proposes that students in higher education institutions should be allowed to enjoy unlimited academic, social and intellectual uncontrolled independence, in conformity with western classical education and cultural orientation. It advocates for critical thinking and brainstorming on key issues towards the development of positive cultural and ethical models in higher education institutions which could be used to promote knowledge development and poverty eradication in the country’s rural areas and urban zones affected by unemployment, pandemics and economic precariousness.

The colonial legacy and its cultural impact on higher education in Mozambique.

Many experts have described the Mozambican mother of higher education as an institution for colonialists and “assimilados” . The first institution of higher education in Mozambique was established by the Portuguese government in 1962, soon after the start of the African wars of independence. It was called the General University Studies of Mozambique (Estudos Gerais Universitários de Moçambique EGUM). In 1968, it was renamed Lourenço Marques University. The university catered for the sons and daughters of Portuguese colonialists. Although the Portuguese government preached non-racism and advocated the assimilation of its African subjects to the Portuguese way of life, the notorious deficiencies of the colonial education system established under the Portuguese rule ensured that very few Africans would ever succeed in reaching university level. However, many educated African were led to adopt the colonial lifestyle.

In spite of Portugal’s attempts to expand African educational opportunities in the late 1960s and early 1970s, only about 40 black Mozambican students – less than 2 per cent of the student body -had entered the University of Lourenço Marques by the time of independence in 1975. The state and the university continued to depend heavily on the Portuguese and their descendants. Even the academic curriculum was defined according to the needs and policies defined long ago by the colonial power.

Soon after Independence in June 1975, the Government of Mozambique, from the FRELIMO party, adopted a Marxist-Leninist orientation and a centrally planned economy. The educational system was nationalized, and the university was renamed after Dr. Eduardo Mondlane, the first president of FRELIMO.

Many cadres trained in Portugal and other European and American universities came also with their own educational and cultural background. Apart from the Eduardo Mondlane University, new public and private universities and institutes were established. These include the Pedagogic University, the ISRI, the Catholic University, ISPU, ISCTEM and ISUTC. Most of these institutions adopted a curriculum clearly modeled on the classical European model. There is still need to integrate African traditional values in the course profiles offered and research programmes developed by these institutions.

The traditional role of a university is to enlighten and serve as a reference within the society: “illuminatio et salus populi”. Today, Mozambique is one of the most culturally and racially diversified society of Africa. This diversity should be considered as a cultural treasure for the nation. It has become however apparent that it’s more a “Babel Tower case”, as no unified Mozambican values appear to develop from this wide variety. With the creation of new public and private universities and new faculties, it would become easier to increase a critical mass of university lecturers and academic professionals, who would in their turn, influence the society, creating and instilling national positive values and ethical principles of conduct in the younger generations. According to many lecturers and students contacted at UEM, Universidade Pedagogica UP and UDM, the impact of higher education on the development of positive academic, scientific, social and cultural values in Mozambique is yet to be felt.

It is however necessary to acknowledge the importance of newly introduced community-based education programmes in some institutions. For instance the emphasis on community and service has guided curriculum development at the Catholic University; its course in agronomy (Cuamba) concentrates on peasant and family farming systems and leans heavily on research and outreach within local farming communities. The CU course in medicine (developed in collaboration with the University of Maastricht) which concentrates on teaching medicine, was particularly deemed appropriate for the rural and urban poor populations of Mozambique, as it is more based on problem-solving and focuses much more on traditional issues.

New Reforms in higher education institutions with a more participative approach

Mozambique is one of few countries in Africa where a new generation of leadership has stepped forward to articulate a vision for their institutions, inspiring confidence among those involved in higher education development and the modernization of their universities. In a series of case studies sponsored and published by the Partnership for Higher Education in Africa , it was confirmed that African universities covered by the studies have widely varying contexts and traditions. They are engaged in broad reform, examining and revising their planning processes, introducing new techniques of financial management, adopting new technologies, reshaping course structures and pedagogy, and more important, reforming practices of governance based in particular on their own contexts and traditions.

Important institutional reforms concerning the strategic planning experiences of the Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) were initiated and implemented so far. Two strategic planning cycles were developed, the first in 1990 and the second one in 1996 / 97. The second one was meant to adapting to the impacts of newly adopted multi-party democracy, market competition, and globalization. Whereas the first reform cycle was the result of high level officials at the University, the second one was generated using a participatory methodology deemed to be more effective in involving the university staff in the process.

It is important to listen to everyone, and to be seen as listening. We are also convinced that various components of the population in Mozambique should be involved in the next phases of the process with a view to define what kind of education orientation the population would wish to have for their children.

There is important progress but yet limited academic impact on the development of the society

Considerable progress has been so far made in post-independence Mozambique. After the initial problems caused by the long years of civil war and then the long efforts necessitated by the adjustment to a market-driven economy and a multi-party democratic political order, Mozambique is now considered to have a higher education system that offers a wide variety of course options and extensive research opportunities. However, a major weakness highlighted by many observers is that all the institutions remain basically concentrated in the capital city of Maputo and its neighboring provinces. It is argued that they serve only a limited fraction of the Mozambican population, and are destined to train the elite of prominent people in government and in the professions, industry and commerce. It is also alleged that the majority of the students who succeed in entering public and private institutions of higher education are from relatively rich families.

It is finally emphasized that nearly 80 per cent of university students in Mozambique use Portuguese as their principal means of communication, thus strengthening the perception of establishing, reproducing and consolidating a hereditary elite, with model values copied on western societies. In response to this challenge, it was suggested that the government should encourage the emergence of new and non-traditional HEIs closer to the local communities, able to respond more rapidly and flexibly to the demands and expectations of the public and private sectors for a high quality trained workforce, while addressing both regional and socioeconomic imbalances in the country.

In our final analysis, we find that the impact of higher education institutions on the development and dissemination of traditional African social and cultural values would be very limited for a long period. As long as the access and feed-back from all levels of the society and regions will be left out of the core interaction with the highly educated elite and higher education institutions mainly concentrated in Maputo, the role of universities in promoting African positive values, a culture of academic ethics and deontology in the entire national society will be very limited.

The process of “Nation building” needs to rely on a strong academic support. One of the Government’s main constitutional commitments is to promote the development of the national culture and identity (article 115 of the 2004 Constitution). It is clear that many institutions, for instance the television, are actively promoting cultural diversity through various means. Institutions of higher education should be seen doing more, in particular starting with the students themselves and the academic community members, who are expected to be the light of the society. Such actions would include the integration of courses on ethics and deontology, and develop a wide-ranging variety of education models that reprove negative behavior and promote positive values. Our recommendation is that the Government should for example instruct public universities and other higher education institutions, to appoint “Ethics and Deontology Committees” at the level of their University Councils and within all autonomous faculties.

Research an Establishment’s Quality Before Dining Out

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:21 pm

In today’s economy, dining out can still be accomplished with the right choices and research beforehand. Paramount to dining experience is choosing a place that appeals to both your sense of taste, and sense of atmosphere. A good establishment will work hard to both feed you well, as well as your comfort and ease levels. Great service, combined with great food and a great atmosphere are all equally important in deciding on what restaurant to dine out at. Your money is valuable, and hard earned, and should be spent in a place that will return the investment well.

When choosing a restaurant for dining out, many things are to be considered. In a good establishment, someone will be readily available to greet and seat you quickly. Your seating needs and requests should be fulfilled considerately. Extremely important to a good Dining Out experience is an establishment with knowledgeable and friendly servers. Specials and deals should be pointed out by the servers, and any questions that the guest has should be accurately answered. The server should be attentive to a guest’s needs, and never let the guest have to vie for the notice of the server.

Another piece of information that must be considered before dining out at a specific place is the actual establishment itself. Any health inspections must have been passed, and the place should be noted to be clean overall. The guest bathrooms should be readily available, clean, and well lit as well. If music is played, it should fit the theme or decor of the place, and not be so loud as to extinguish conversation.

Last, but perhaps the most important, research food quality and prices before dining out. Although individual’s tastes can differ greatly, checking reviews of specific places is a great way to scope the quality of the food. Seek reviewers with similar tastes as yours by finding reviews you would have given an establishment you have previously visited. And never forget to check the prices of courses at specific places! In this day and age, many places have their menu listed online, and this can be a great way to plan out a meal before leaving your own home to dine out. Though all of these great tips for dining out seem tedious, they are much less time consuming than going to an unfamiliar establishment that you end up greatly disliking. These tips can save you both your money, and time!

Online Political Science Degree – Be A Success – Make A Change

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:06 pm

After successfully completing an online political science degree from an accredited university or school, political science majors see world events from various perspectives. There are those who pursue this degree in hopes of launching a political or civil service career. However, there are various other career options.

You can be a high school teacher, college professor, campaign manager, legislative aid, agency specialist, state legislator, district attorney, legislative attorney, consultant, lobbyist, press secretary or even a judge. With these job options, the salary and benefits you can receive is definitely more than sufficient.

Since most voters usually decide at the spur of the moment, political science students learn how to research on context, particularly about different governments which have either failed or thrived in their social agendas. Political Science students concentrate on specific areas of politics such as international relations or the local government.

It is a sad fact that there are politicians who don’t really understand minor to major issues which their constituents are facing. To resolve this, they rely on a team of expert consultants and analysts which can fill in gaps for their election platforms. With knowledge on these specializations, students are able to build a track record of research. Later on, they can use these in gaining expertise on their chosen fields.

Whether it’s an on-campus or online political science degree program, most universities and colleges encourage their students to participate in their specific department. They require their students to complete short certificate programs or to commit to a lifelong career via a PhD in their chose specialty. There are various political science degree programs you can choose from depending on your level of education and background.

If you are a working professional or a student and you were not able to complete your undergraduate degrees in Political Science, you still have a chance to enhance your skills via an online certificate program or through an associate’s degree. With a certificate program, you can build crucial skills in certain specialty areas. Working professionals can use these certificate programs in providing addition expertise so that they can qualify for career moves or promotions.

With an associate’s degree, students become exposed to career opportunities in public service. Then again, many are reconsidering this option because competition is tough. As a result, online universities and colleges encourage their applicants to roll over their course credits and consider a master’s degree program or a full 4-year online Political Science degree program.

When it comes to a master’s degree in Political Science, you can use your life experiences as well as your previous undergraduate work in exploring deeper issues in politics and influence. This is a great way in deepening your understanding of the political structure and its noted influence on both domestic as well as international policies. Niche fields like nonprofit law, public policy, administrative theory, regulatory policy and labor management relations fall into play in these graduate programs.

If you are only aiming for a part-time degree, you can earn credits by completing a 2 to 5 year online Political Science degree program. This way, you can land in a career as a civil servant or as a campaign worker.

Then again, if you want to advance further and you are thinking of pursuing a Political Science doctorate degree, this is the best way to increase your chances of becoming leaders of private research foundations or tenured faculty members. Through an online Political Science degree, you can focus on deeper topics like transnational & comparative politics and policy; public administration; policy analysis and administration; justice politics and policy; as well as American politics and policy.

An online political science degree program is your best bet to succeeding in Political Science careers. This is the best and most effective way to learn certain skills and characteristics which can help you in your chosen field. This includes the efficiency in oral presentation; a more thorough understanding of the American political system; strong written communication skills; comprehensive yet accurate research skills; a better understanding of international politics & policy; as well as more effective interview skills & techniques.

To become certified as a teacher, you need to meet both local and state requirements. You may need to pursue continuous or additional education in order to maintain your eligibility. If you are applying at a federal agency, you would need to pass a complex entry exam before you can get a personal interview.

Thus, during the interview, you may even be required to join in role playing exercises. For a civil servant position, you would succumb to a rigorous background check. This means, if you have something to hide, you would need to divulge your incriminating and embarrassing information during the early part of the interview.

Once you pass the substance or drug abuse test as well as the background check, you can get a low level security clearance. As you advance to higher profile projects, you will also earn higher clearance levels.

Snow Skiing, My Heart And Soul!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:25 pm

It’s so cold, it’s so wet, and it’s so dangerous?

Please let me share why you and I are not Crazy!

For Everyone.

Snow skiing is one of the really exciting sports that combine exhilaration, fellowship, ambience and adventure, for all levels of participants.

In Europe, children are being taught to ski as young as 2 years old and on the same slopes there are people over 90 years young.

There are people of every nationality, race, creed and colour.

There are one armed, one legged and even blind people, involved everywhere, at some level.

What is the appeal of a sport that brings so many different people together, amidst the cold snow, in the spirit of friendliness and just having a good time?

Challenge.

Everyone that takes up skiing, no matter their current skill level, can find a place on the slopes to be thrilled and challenged.

Whether it is the brand new, novice skier on the nursery slopes (even if 18 years old) tentatively trying his very first snow plough in a desperate attempt to stop, or whether it is the level 1 skier, gracefully carving out sweeping curves across the face of the virgin, freshly fallen snow.

Everyone will find his or her challenge.

Fun.

Skiing is always fun.

We put ourselves into ridiculous situations in the company of others doing the same and we seldom stop laughing.

Watch people coming off the chair lift.

Perhaps we see the super cool youngster, trying to impress his girlfriend, heads off on one ski, collides with the group in front, and collapse into a heap of tangled skis and bodies.

And see how they are all laughing.

Perhaps you will see a group of skiers following the ski instructor in graceful sweeping turns until someone loses control and takes the whole group into a snowdrift.

And watch as they climb out, covered from head to toe in snow and almost hysterical in their laughter.

Camaraderie.

As you meet your friends or join your ski school group in the queue for the very first lift of the day, there is a shared feeling of anticipation and nervousness as to what the day will bring.

Every one is fresh and dry in their colourful ski clothes, possibly a little cold, but already, the adrenaline is staring to flow.

Perhaps it is the first time you have met the group and with the common anticipation, being shared, you are soon talking to others, about where they are from, how long they’ve been skiing etc.

Then as you share your exploits and adventure during the day, by the time the lifts close, you are already on the way to feeling like friends.

Fellowship

The air is still and the twilight is descending onto the mountain.

And lights are on in all the bars, cafes and restaurants as they shout “Welcome, to all you Ski Adventurers.”

You and your group answer that welcome and share glu-wein, a vodka fig or just a cleansing ale.

Your faces are flushed and rosy from the day’s exertions, and as you relive your experiences, they become funnier and braver than you ever felt possible.

By the time it is ready for dinner, you have all become heroes in each other’s eyes, with the quiet satisfaction and internal pride that “today, you did good!”

Ambience.

So you have finished your dinner and you sit in the armchairs in front of the roaring log fire.

The shadows flicker gently on the walls as the flames continue their dance in the huge fireplace.

You feel relaxed, comfortable and sleepy as you spend time with your new friends.

For some, the cobwebs fill your brain and you drift off to sleep.

Others will gain a second wind and be off to the local nightspot to party.

And finally, you toddle off to bed and descend into the deep relaxing, well earned sleep, from which even the party goers returning home, cannot stir you.

Adventure.

Skiing is always an adventure.

When as beginner, you go up to the first time on the chair lift and see the steepness of that blue slope, your heart starts to flutter.

Exactly the same when, as an accomplished skier, you stand on top of the almost vertical expanse of virgin snow, spread out below you.

It is an adventure when you are having lunch, high in the mountains, surrounded by the giant peaks and deep valleys that seem to go forever.

And meeting men and women from all walks of life, foreign cultures, struggling with language and customs, is all part of the adventure.

So skiing is a passion for me.

I learned to ski late in life and after finding it, discovered a wonderful world of fun, friendship and adventure.

So you are welcome to my world and may you share in all of the above, and then some!!

The Allure of a Sports Car

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:01 am

The irrational but basic appeal of the sports car has overwhelmed people’s reason ever since the first ones were introduced. In far-flung places round the world those with money soon indicated their love for these cars by buying one for their collection. Whatever the kind of celebrity – royalty, film-star or playboy – driving a fast car is a powerful way of showing your high status. Today the open top two-seater types may mean different things to different people. This article will provide examples of this.

It’s likely that the Mazda MX5 is more attractive to women than to men. The engines of the Honda CRX and the S2000 are impressively powerful and reliable. Both men and women are drawn to the sleek Honda S2000, a car that more than once has won engine of the year in its category. They are performance cars that give a person a certain satisfaction and pleasure when flying down the motorway. The dashing sporty appearance of these vehicles makes them readily distinguishable from the dull family cars that infest our roads.

Nearly all of the vehicles currently on the road have been designed to meet two criteria: usefulness and cheapness.. It is the experience of driving a fast car, though, that sports cars are designed for. Powerful acceleration, superb road-holding, and the feeling that you own the road are the objectives of those who design them.

The appearance of a car is the first thing that people are drawn to. Designs are built around aerodynamic efficiencies and curb appeal; they are always pleasing to the eye. The design is intended to encourage would-be drivers to buy so that they can abandon convention and be free. The beautiful sweeping lines are all designed to break even the most stubborn of wills… succumbing to a beautifully designed car is simply something many of us dream of doing.

Feelings of fun and excitement are aroused by driving a fast and sporty car. To drive this kind of car can be to enter a world of amazing experiences. Because these cars are designed to be driven they are engineered to very exacting standards. Once a car has left the dealer’s premises it will have lost much of its value. You can buy gap insurance to protect you against this loss of value. A sports car, though, will often appreciate in value as it gets older. Most sports cars are built to last and withstand being driven fast and hard. When a sports car becomes a classic -as is usual – it can still sell for a high price.

Desirability, speed, and high cost are the first thoughts that spring to mind when thinking about a sports car. There are few items made today that have such an emotional attraction. There are many clubs created by enthusiasts and they provide opportunities for owners to display their cherished cars. Club members may often receive pre-arranged discounts on insurance and car warranty products.

There is no one thing that can pinpoint exactly why we have an attraction to fast, sleek sports cars. The freedom of the open road is best experienced at the wheel of a fast car. The allure of a sports car is greatly increased when it is a convertible. The thought of flying down the roadway with the wind blowing through your hair has a certain appeal to some. The innovative technology is another reason why we seem to be drawn to these types of cars. Sleek styling coupled with a powerful yet compact engine is the norm. Performance and innovative technology give the sports car an iconic appeal.

A sports car is built to be driven and to respond to the driver. Making the driver feel in total control is why they have such a powerful fascination. We need to feel that the exercise and control of power enables us to reach and even exceed our limits. The one beautiful package expresses both power and strength.

Driving a sports car can give you a real feeling of freedom. Every generation of make and model performs better than previous ones as a result of advances in technology. If you wish to feel potent and to show your wild side, driving a sports car is the answer. Feelings of nostalgia can often be the cause of such emotions. The happy distant days of our youth are easily brought back by a classic sports car. They can be cherished symbols of past times. As a classic sports car gets older so it should get better as well as more valuable.

It doesn’t matter whether you have a classic muscle car or brand new example – they are both definitely attention grabbers. You will be noticed in your flashy vehicle because such cars exude power and masculinity. If you are thinking of buying an new car, you should seriously think about purchasing a product called finance shortfall gap insurance to protect you in the event of an insurance write-off.

Everyone associates sports cars with speed and performance. Cars such as the Toyota MR2 are made particularly small and compact; add to this a powerful sedan engine and the power to weight ratio is excellent. Lady drivers especially like this car – as they do the Mazda MX5 – because of its compact design.

Supercars is the only fit description for the bigger sports cars such as the Ferrari Enzo, the Lamborghini Reventon Roadster and the Audi R8. There are several interesting ways in which those who build the bigger sports cars manage to reduce their weight. The weight of high performance production sports cars is usually kept down by using light materials for construction. Glass fibre or carbon fibre is used for the construction of the body panels of such cars. By dispensing with ‘luxury’ extras like air conditioning, electric windows, and thick pile carpets, a car’s weight can be significantly reduced. The most significant factor in reducing a car’s weight is the use of cutting edge materials in the manufacture of the wheels.

The reduction of body weight, powerful supercharged engines and state of the art technological advances make for blisteringly quick super cars like the Ferrari 40 and Lamborghini Gallardo. The engine does not have to work so hard to propel a lighter car. This enhances performance and makes the car easier to control.

A sports car is something that seems to appeal to almost everyone. Not many people will ignore a powerful and flashy sports car that’s parked in the street. They attract people and provide immense pleasure. Many people would love to own a sports car and why shouldn’t they do so if they have the money?

When buying a new car it’s wise to buy gap insurance to protect against the effect of new car depreciation. Future 45 Ltd. offer additional insurance products available for discerning UK motorists which can be bought online or by phone on 0844 357 8300

Taking the Plunge – Snow Skiing Tips for the Beginner – Part 1

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:00 pm

Remember the Peter Stuyvesant cigarette ad they used to show in the movie theatre … the one with the beautiful models playing in a winter paradise of crisp clean snow, wide open spaces and the commanding presence of the mountains towering in the crystal clear air? (I know I’m showing my age, but bear with me a moment.)

They (the cigarette company) were hell bent on showing you the lifestyle of the rich and famous and making you wish you had it… Well, snow skiing is one of those recreational activities that takes you one step closer to living the Lifestyle!

So here is a short guide to Snow Skiing for Beginners.

Tip # 1- Get Some Lessons

You’ve made the decision to boldly venture where you’ve never gone before – balanced precariously on small slender pieces of wood & metal on a slippery surface that will get you all wet. Sounds simple and easy enough, but it takes a lot of courage to get out on that limb for other people to see just how green you really are. But even one lesson will build your confidence, lessen your fear and help you appreciate the grace and beauty of cross-country skiing.

It’s essential to take a lesson early in your skiing career to help you get the basics such as balance, control and stopping under your belt on a flattish surface before you take on the slopes. You won’t get all of it down pat in the first run – you’ll slowly apply and perfect them as you continue – but being aware of them will help you gain confidence. Skiing is a confidence sport – the more confidence you have in your own ability, the better you’ll be able to cope with what the slopes throw at you!

And you don’t need to fork out the big bucks for private lessons either. Lessons in small groups help you learn from other’s mistakes, not to mention building camaraderie with other newbies like yourself.

Most Ski Resorts offer beginners classes so be sure to check it out with your chosen ski resort and reserve your spot in the first class on offer on the day you arrive.

Whether you’re a total novice having never ventured onto skis in your life before or been on the slopes a couple of times, regular lessons in your burgeoning skiing career will help you to improve your skills, correct any bad habits you might have picked up and set your skis on the path to total enjoyment and freedom.

Remember, speaking to experts and more advanced students is still the best way of getting all the practical info you need.

Top Headhunter’s Resume Writing Secrets Revealed

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:09 am

First, a little background by way of a brief case study of how I improved how my candidates resumes were written.

The year was 2005 and I was recruiting for a top 15 Fortune client who was very specific about the resumes they accepted, and they had every right to be just that picky.

I’d won the opportunity to be among the very few external recruiters who was allowed this privilege and I received that opportunity because of my high standards of candidate referrals.

Yet, despite that reputation and all my years of experience, I was experiencing a higher rate of candidate rejection at the resume review stage than I was accustomed to. While the client was satisfied, I wasn’t… and I determined to improve.

How I Started Getting Three Times More Candidate Resumes Accepted For Interviews

The secret was the resume writing method that I developed. My criteria were that the resume had to be 100% honest and factual. I never, ever knowingly do anything to embellish my candidate’s resume and you shouldn’t do that to your resume either. That’s a recipe for disaster!

I’m not only an executive recruiter with over 40 years of experience, I also certify recruiters in the Adler method of interviewing. That means I have access to many, many internal corporate recruiting departments. I used some of those contacts along with my many years of experience to begin the development of my resume writing process. I conducted a survey among the top companies to see what they want in the resumes they review.

Simultaneously with that process, I started to incorporate selective marketing principles from direct, consumer-based marketing. That meant I had to study some of the top ad writers work and see what I could use in writing a resume that gets a higher rate of acceptance. After all your resume is your own personal marketing document.

The Resume Writing Method I Came Up With

When I put all that together, I came up with a better way to show my candidates how to write their own resumes in order to increase the odds of getting the interview.

Let me emphasize, my purpose and strategy was to share my resume strategies with my candidates so they could re-write their resume; not to write their resumes for them. My role was to approve or disapprove of the resume and offer advice during the re-write process. If my candidate was unwilling to re-write their resume, I refused to move them forward in the process.

Here’s my point. Actually there are only three fundamental reasons that you don’t receive an invitation to interview after you submit your resume.

  1. Number One – the job may already be filled.
  2. Number Two – you’ve sent your resume to a job that you aren’t qualified for.
  3. Number Three – the job is a great match, but your resume didn’t convince the reader – in other word you have a resume failure.

How to Improve on Resume Failures

The key, “secret sauce” became how to “get inside the head” of the recruiters and hiring managers that were reviewing my candidate’s resumes. In other words, what is going through the mind of the reader when first reading the resume?

Using the information developed in the above step, I developed a 15 point resume strategy that I still use very effectively today. Obviously there isn’t enough space in this overview to provide all the details, but here is a quick summary of three key things I did.

First, I eliminated the Objective Statement. I never, ever for any reason include that on a resume and you shouldn’t either.

Second, I primarily use a two page resume template format that is simple, easy to read with plenty of white space. Occasionally, I’ll use a three page format, but I have strict criteria for that. I also conducted marketing tests and discovered that three pages didn’t hurt my acceptance rate, if I watched when I used it. I did find out that anything over three pages substantially increased the rejection rate. I highly recommend that you stick to a two page resume; but never more than three pages.

Third, I changed the first thing that appears on my candidates resumes. After the name and contact information I include a Summary section that uses my Power Accomplishment format and I tie that specifically to job requirements. There is more to it than that, but that is arguably the most important thing I changed. Think of it as the equivalent to a written elevator pitch.

You can learn to write a better resume and most people don’t need a professional resume writer. In fact, many, many of the resumes I changed had been written by these writers. They may be good at the written word, but no one understands better than an experienced working recruiter what really works best during the resume review because we are in a position to get the client direct feedback.

My recommendation is to learn how to write your own resume, but if feel you must use a professional resume writer, at least take the time to study what separates a great resume from a good resume and provide the writer with the proper information to write a great resume.

Super Exotic Sports Cars – What You Should Know, Before Spending Any Money!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:59 pm

Before we start, let’s define the term ‘super exotic sports cars’. Sports cars, by definition are borderline racing cars; boasting powerful performance and sleek looks. Their prestige makes them expensive, and thus the domain of a select few. With reference to sports cars, the term “exotic” refers to vehicles produced in very limited numbers. This of course increases their exclusivity and by virtue of this, their value. Exotic sports cars will, in all likelihood, be built by smaller manufacturers or perhaps the super high-end vehicles will be created by some of the better-known car companies outside of the United States, as exclusive models.

Many exotic sports cars are the stuff of legend. The world’s fastest car, the McLaren F1, for instance is a well-known exotic. Although only around one hundred F1s were produced and the manufacturer is not a household name (outside of the Grand Prix circuits of course), the McLarens are coveted sports cars. All exotic sports cars are highly sought after and, as status symbols, are second to none in the sports car world.

But, assuming that you can afford it, is an exotic sports car for you?

It is easy to be seduced by the allure of owning an exotic sports car. Owning one can be very tempting. Amongst the purists, the cars themselves are often considered the pinnacle of design. Any enthusiast who has the means will tell you that when an opportunity to invest in an exotic sports car presents itself, resistance can be very difficult.

One should try and be objective about the proposition though.

Before making such a major commitment, there are three factors you should consider.

Exotic Sports Cars Are Very Expense

The cost of owning such a prestigious car, does not end when you part with the initial payment. Even if one can afford the initial asking price of an exotic (and not many can), one needs to be aware of the likely ongoing running expenses , which can be significant. The maintenance and repair of an exotic car is certain to be expensive compared to non-exotic vehicles and a buyer should attempt to discover what kind of costs he or she is likely to experience in order to keep the car in running order. There can be no cost cutting on parts for these high end vehicles.

Parts for prestige cars are likely to be in short supply, if they are available at all. The likelihood that the owners of exotic sports cars will need to have some parts custom made during their ownership of the vehicle is quite high. And the cost will be significant. This is especially true of older exotics, many of which will have been orphaned when their original manufacturer stopped making cars. Not only will this prove extremely expensive, one can also expect it to be time consuming as well. And, as time passes, the necessary investment will only become greater.

Your usual mechanic cannot be expected to be able to repair exotic sports cars. You will need specialised mechanics with specialised tools to be able to ensure that appropriate and professional repairs are carried out. Not only will such individuals be, in all probability much more expensive than your usual mechanics, you would be very fortunate if you found one in your town. You should expect to have to do a lot of traveling in order to find suitable mechanical help.

All too often a sports car buff will purchase an exotic, without though to the ongoing costs, and, as a consequence be completely unprepared to handle additional future expenses. A thorough planning of expected costs and the means to meet those costs would certainly be in order.

Reliability Of High End Vehicles

Even though an exotic sports car may represent the ultimate in performance, One cannot assume that it will also be reliable. This will hold particularly true for the older ‘classic’ exotic cars. As with any high performance machine, exotic sports cars can be quite delicate (temperamental) which will, in all probability, require that you, or someone close to you be regularly on hand to make the adjustments to ensure that the vehicle stays in operating order. Exotic sports cars are well known for the spectacular side of their performance when they running well. However, the other side of the coin is that they are notorious for being among the most temperamental of vehicles that one may encounter.

If you plan to run an exotic sports car on a regular basis, you should be prepared for the highs and los of motoring. The sublime feeling of driving a top car with top performance can often be forgotten if the same car stops and refuses to start many miles from any assistance.

The Drivability of Exotic Cars

Most owners of high performance cars will tell you that such vehicles take ‘some getting used too’. Optimum performance comes at a price, and will depend very largely on the skill of the driver. So, if you are relatively inexperienced, then please do not expect to get the best out of your car straight away. This in itself could prove too frustrating for many potentials owners. One should also take into account the relative risk of driving a high performance cars whilst still inexperienced.

For those to whom the additional cost of time in learning to drive a prestige car optimally and safely is not an issue, an additional, problem arises in the adjustment of seats and pedals for example. Small things that are irrelevant in normal cars take on much greater significance when applied to exotic sports cars.

When considering the purchase of an exotic sports car, one must look past the romance and excitement of owning a legendary vehicle. There are real concerns and obstacles to be overcome before the full enjoyment and benefit of owning such a car can be achieved.

Every motorist needs to know how to legally beat your speeding ticket today. Or avoid the problem altogether with the best radar detectors around.

Different Types of Restaurants Are Fun For Dining Out

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:19 am

Going out to eat can be fun and enjoyable for everyone. Today’s restaurants range from the neighborhood diner to one that has five star reviews. Sometimes, the most popular restaurant for dining out is the neighborhood diner. What keeps people coming back are the food and the atmosphere. It’s usually where you go to meet friends after work or after a local sporting event. It has a sense of community and it’s a well-loved part of the town. It’s a restaurant that usually offers bottomless coffee, home cooking, specials that you can’t get anywhere else and service with a smile. Almost every neighborhood has one.

Ethnic restaurants are also a great place for dining out. They offer food that’s specific to one country or area. The restaurants are usually found in ethnic parts of a city. The best way to get to know the food, if you’re not familiar with it, is to go with someone who is. If you do go alone, ask the cook, waiter or waitress to help you with your selection. Some dishes can be very spicy or have ingredients that are not to your liking. Some restaurants have a sampler plate on their menus so you can try small amounts of different food. Trying new foods is a good way of broadening your tastes.

Family oriented restaurants make dining out with your family easy. These restaurants are usually kid-friendly and offer a menu that caters to the adult and the smallest member at the table. They also have crayons and puzzles on hand to keep the kids busy until their meals arrive. Some family oriented restaurants are all about kids. They have age appropriate amusements that keep kids and adults entertained for hours. They’re a great place to have a child’s birthday party.

Sports restaurants are where many people go to get good food and watch a game or two. Many sports restaurants have several (or more) big screen TVs placed around the room. Each TV is tuned to a game (sometimes different games) so you’ll never have to miss a goal, touchdown or home run. Dining out with a group of friends is usually fun at a sports restaurant. The menus range from appetizers to burgers and steaks. Sometimes a restaurant will offer specials for each touchdown or score that the home team makes. Depending on the team, this can be a real inexpensive day out.

Bad Dog, Bad Dog, Whatcha Gonna Do? Part 1

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 9:16 am

On a recent episode of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” (AFV) one of the top three submissions for the $10,000 prize was a video of the aftermath of destruction a family’s pet dog had done to their home. This dog had destroyed an end table, ripped the frame off a doorway, demolished a patio door screen and frame, shredded carpeting, broken glassware, and had literally “eaten” a three foot by four foot hole in the wall – destroying sheetrock, insulation, and framing in the process. He was a one dog demolition crew! I was horrified and appalled as I watched the video and listened to the mixture of giggles and gasps from the viewing audience. It was as if the poor, unsuspecting family shrugged their shoulders and said “Bad Dog, Bad Dog, Whatcha Gonna Do?”

The more appropriate question, however, is “My dog, my dog, WHY do you do what you do?” The answer to that question is not a simple one. Entire books have been written concerning “bad dog behavior.” And the truth is that every dog is different, and therefore, there is no “pat answer” for every situation. However, a basic understanding of “Who dogs are, and How they behave” will lead us to some appropriate suggestions on how to handle difficult and domineering dogs. If you suffer from “Bad Dog Syndrome,” this article will help you understand who your dog is (Alpha Dog Mentality), and teach you how to “reprogram” and your misbehaving dog. Soon you’ll be saying “Good Dog, Good Dog, Oh how I love you!” You can find the follow-up article “Bad Dog, Bad Dog” Part 2, in the Feature Articles section at K-9 Outfitters, A Division of Damascus Road Enterprises.

But before we proceed, if you suffer from “bad dog syndrome” with your family pet, make sure there isn’t an underlying medical condition. Take your dog to the vet, explain your problem, and ensure he/she is healthy, and doesn’t suffer from dental, intestinal, digestion, parasitic, or other problems. Once you find that your dog is healthy, the following information should prove helpful.

Dogs are, by nature, pack animals. Pack animal behavior is instinctive from before dogs were domesticated and lived in the wild. Every pack has a hierarchy, and every animal in the pack has duties, responsibilities, and expectations. Since your dog doesn’t live in the wild, he/she assumes you, your family, and other household pets make up the “pack.” Many times, “bad dog behavior” is a result of confusion over “Alpha Dog Status” or “Alpha Dog Mentality.” You must establish that you are the “Alpha” dog in the pack. You must also establish that other family members, to include the children, all rank higher in the pack than your dog does. There are many ways to effectively put your dog in his proper pack ranking. Here are a few suggestions, or rules, for handling domineering dogs, and establishing pack rankings:

1. When you enter the house, make sure your dog enters last, even if you must put her on a leash. This shows her where she ranks in the family “pack.”

2. Alpha dogs want the run of the entire house. Make sure certain areas of the home are out of bounds for the dog. That may include certain bedrooms, the laundry room, bathrooms, or the den. This helps the dog know you are master of the house, not him.

3. Alpha dogs occupy high traffic areas, like hallways and entryways. Don’t step over or go around the dog, nudge the dog and tell her to move out of your way, and make sure she does so. This lets her know who owns the space and who is in charge.

4. Don’t allow your dog to DEMAND your attention. Dogs usually do this by climbing on your lap, or by nudging your hand or arm. Make the dog sit, lie down, etc., and then give lavish praise and attention. Remember, you control when you give your dog attention, affection, and praise.

5. Exercise control over your dog’s possessions. Take away all her toys, then give her a command, and when she obeys, give her the toy as a treat. After she plays with it for awhile, take it away again.

6. When you come home, make your dog greet you first. Ignore him until he does. He must be submissive to you, not the other way around.

7. Establish dog eating times. In the pack, the Alpha dog always eats first, and then the other dogs eat. Make sure the family eats first, followed by the dog. If you must feed the dog first, pretend to eat something first, then feed your dog. Leave the dog’s food out for 10-15 minutes, then take it up, whether the dog is finished or not. She will learn quickly to eat when fed.

8. Always stroke (pet) your dog around the head, neck, and shoulders. These are vulnerable areas for the dog, and shows that you are superior. Be careful not to stroke your dog around the chest, because this puts him in the dominating position and undermines your authority as alpha dog.

9. Don’t allow your dog to sleep in your bed! I know that’s a tough one for some folks, but believe me, it’s best for all concerned. The best thing to do is provide the dog with her own cage, crate, or bed. Put it in your bedroom if that helps you, but do it. Dogs “Kennel” by nature. They like a safe, snug place they can call their own.

Your dog is your pet. Ultimately, all he/she really wants is your love and affection (i.e. time together). Hopefully, these ideas and suggestions, along with a better understanding of who your dog is and the role he plays in the family relationship, will soon move you from saying “Bad Dog, Bad Dog, Whatcha Gonna Do?” to saying, “Good Dog, Good Dog, Oh How I Love You!”

By the way, the “Destructive Dog” video did not win a prize on AFV, although I’m sure the family could have used the money for repairs. Following our guidelines would prove a lot less expensive and would make for a much more harmonious family and pet relationship.

How To Choose And Launch The Career You’ll Love

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:13 pm

Today’s tough challenges:

- Exploding job choices.

- Why 50% stay stuck in the wrong job.

- Career decisions are complicated.

Part of the challenge in getting started to uncover the right career is learning about the exploding job choices.

For the first time in human history we have a huge, increasing number of choices for work. A growing number of new job categories are being created because of the increasing complexity and options inherent with frequent change, new work processes and all the new technologies.

But as the number of types of jobs gets bigger, the amount of specialization required to fill these positions also increases. For the job or career-seeker this situation actually reduces the number of choices a person has unless they have a directed goal, appropriate training, and background or apprenticeship in a field of their choice. As time goes on, it becomes harder and harder to leave a current job, even though its unsatisfying, and go off in search of a better life-unless you know how to navigate with a plan.

So in today’s work place, we need new and better approaches for discovering, choosing and launching a career that is satisfying – one that you’ll be excited about pursuing.

Why 50% stay stuck in the wrong jobs:

Research continues to show over 50% of workers are unhappy in their jobs. Often people stay in a job they don’t like for a number of reasons:

1. They don’t believe it’s possible to have a satisfying career.

2. They don’t know how to go about finding and choosing a career.

3. They are “comfortable” where they are and don’t want to take on any new risks.

4. They have financial obligations – family, credit cards, payments – that handcuffs them to staying put. They feel they can’t jeopardize their current job by looking around.

5. They don’t know enough about themselves – their abilities and interest.

6. Their parents have other ideas and “plans” for them, which are pushed subtly or overtly. Maybe it’s a family history where everyone has been in the legal profession. Or a family business that one is expected to enter. Or a mother’s wish for a child to become a doctor. Then, not having made a clear choice for themselves, these paths are accepted, even though the person knows in his or her heart of hearts it’s not the right thing for them.

7. They don’t how to thoroughly investigate careers, and instead they rely on their limited job experiences or advice from well-meaning friends.

But if a person knows how to go about career planning, most of the above reasons for staying in the wrong job will vanish.

Career decisions are complicated:

First, recognize that career happiness is your choice — a choice that you control.. Taking just whatever job happens to be available, or random job hopping will not expose you properly to a sufficient number of vocational situations. Without adequate choices and a plan to go through them, you never find the career that really is right for you.

Career Planning Requires – A Plan:

Empower yourself by beginning with an action plan. According to our career experts the fastest surest way to career satisfaction is to develop and follow a plan. This allows you to focus intensely on career goals and breaking each goal into specific actions and completion dates. You get to take an active role in concentrating on weekly and monthly steps, recorded in your career action plan.

A career action plan should include who, what, where and when you need to act. For example, the action plan to complete an assessment of your interests and abilities would include:

o Who to contact to take the assessment.

o What the assessment should cover.

o Where will this be done.

o When will it be started, and when finished.

Next we’ll look at some of the situations that could stop a person from successful career planning.

What can go wrong:

- When your school career center does not help.

- Old approaches no longer work. Information overload.

We often hear that school career centers and library programs have not helped. One of the most common places we go for help is our school career center. Especially in college, students rely on the career office to guide them to the right path and to get hired. Typically traditional career centers offer testing, brief counseling, some resume work and interviewing preparation.

Our research shows most people feel frustrated about their career choices before and during their job search.

An important missing piece in many traditional career centers is a very thorough

exploration of hundreds of careers.

Exploration should involve brainstorming exciting career possibilities in the work world and matching the right careers with an individual’s unique strengths, interests and needs. Discovering more about yourself and stretching your imagination as you explore 100s of career opportunities is a critical step for finding the perfect career.

Old approaches no longer work:

Today there are unprecedented career opportunities around the globe. To make the most of these opportunities, we must go beyond conventional career approaches with a new way of thinking.

A complete and structured program is essential to fully explore an individual’s wildly different strengths and talents to unleash their potential. To thrive in a complicated work climate we need to thoroughly examine a full range of careers-in the public and private sectors, in organizations or in entrepreneurial areas.

Too many resources -information overload

We recommend exploring careers in a structured program with access to resources you can use while you investigate.

College career centers offer a broad selection of career books and online resources. With so many to choose from it’s often overwhelming what will help. How do you know which to use?

Our experts suggest using books or workbooks where you can record your answers and develop a plan. Also avoid “how to” books presenting 1000s of different steps because simple is best for reaching your goals.

Why Internet courses may not work for you:

The one word of caution we have is not to plan your future alone. Sitting for hours at your computer attempting to go it alone easily discourages people from following through.

We recommend the most effective way to move your career forward is to find supportive people and talk regularly. You may need to brainstorm ideas and talk about your frustrations or plan how to work around obstacles. Career planning alone is very difficult. Our most important advice is to include others when making career decisions. Ask friends, family, colleagues who are knowledgeable and caring.

In our series we will walk you through other important information on discovering the right career. Next topics are: The Big Rewards when working with our passion. How to know what’s calling you?

Sticky situations: How do you combine many different interests into one career? How do you identify your strong interests. What if your field dries up?

Make an Educated Choice With Automotive Reviews

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:05 pm

What are the benefits of automotive reviews and who benefits from them? The answer appears to be simple. The consumer is given all the details he/she might be interested in, as well as a rating of the automobile, so he/she appears to be the sole beneficiary of automotive reviews, since they are useful instruments in making the right choice when purchasing a car. But automotive reviews can work for the benefit of car dealers just as well, as their websites will be considerably trafficked, and initiation of leads from the part of the informed consumers – potential consumers – is more likely to take place.

When car dealers are interested in attracting visitors to their websites, they have a great variety of means at their disposal. A good ranking made by a search engine will definitely come with an increased number of visitors, but another problem still remains. How do you retain those visitors and turn them into potential customers? Automotive reviews are the answer. Good automotive reviews offer the right information that the visitors require. A first step, which is very important, is that the potential customers will spend quite some time reading the automotive review posted on the website. The purchase of a car is an important step and deciding upon a certain car model may prove to be a complex and painstaking process. Regardless of their financial possibilities, all the potential buyers feel the need to be well informed before they move on to the next step, that of actually paying for the car and driving it home. When researching, customers will find it useful to have access to independent automotive reviews, which will guarantee that their best interest as consumers comes first. The right information offered by independent automotive reviews can turn a visitor into a customer very quickly, and this is what car dealers have to take advantage of.

Automotive news is another means of keeping the potential customers informed. The latest news make the object of interest for all those passionate about cars, or those researching for a car purchase. However, many people consider that the automotive reviews found on automotive blogs are to be trusted more than any other means of information. Consumers trust automotive blogs because they know that most of the information there comes from people just like them who have something to share. Providing the consumer with the possibility of writing his/her own review of a car is important. People wish to make educated choices when it comes to purchasing a car, and automotive blogs offer them the information they need.

An automotive blog is not just a reliable source of information, but is also available at any hour, since the internet has no limitations whatsoever. An automotive blog will provide visitors with all sorts of information, such as tips for buying cars, maintenance, car repair and safety, environmental issues, and so forth. Some other car-related aspects may constitute the reason why people affiliate to an automotive blog. These aspects may refer to esthetics, utility or power.

An automotive blog is all the more reliable when it contains photographs or videos, or gives reference to other car blogs or similar websites, showing that the consumer’s best interest comes first.

A Basic History Of Snow Skiing Styles

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:09 pm

Skiing appeared to be initially a simple means of getting via 1 spot to yet another in packed or even crusted snow. For some, skiing signifies recreational alpine skiing during which 1 goes to a resort, secures a lift ticket, dons cold-weather garments, skis, ski shoes or boots, ski posts and embarks with a chair lift or different means of mechanized uphill transportation. This sport has come a considerable ways during the past half-century nonetheless. To many people whom enjoy watching it on television, it may seem like an extremely elitist sport activity, demanding a high amount of education as well as pricey gear.

Even so, snow-boarding and skiing are generally each stimulating and common wintertime pursuits. Skiing is usually most apparent to the public throughout the Winter Olympic Games. As an example, conventional competitive skiing is actually made of 4 activities; downhill (a extreme descent in a contest versus time), slalom (raced over a dramatically rotating course marked off by means of flags), the ski jump (in which contestants jump via specifically prepared jump inclines and they are evaluated at both long distance as well as form) and cross-country (in which skiers battle over a lengthy course- which range from TEN km/6 mi to FIFTY km/31 mi) on which this landscape and obstacles test strength and maneuverability. Generally speaking, competitive skiing is usually separated into 2 disciplines: racing and freestyle.

Skiing is straightforward to learn, however more challenging to master. Consequently there are actually ski classes which train everything from basic principles of turning and stopping properly, to more advanced carving and mogul methods. If you find yourself learning to ski, whatever type, a handful of critical supplies becomes necessary, including headgear, skis, ski posts, ski bindings, ski shoes or boots, ski pants, eye protection, hand protection and the checklist keeps growing.

One particular type of skiing is freestyle skiing, that is a mix of skiing methods, acrobatics and aerial skiing. Freestyle skiing started in the 1930s, while Norwegian skiers started doing acrobatics in the course of alpine and cross-country exercising. This particular form 1st started to get taken seriously in the early 1970s, while it had been referred to as hot-dogging. Freestyle skiing ended up being a demo occurrence at the 1988 Winter Olympics.

Additionally there is alpine skiing. You will discover a couple of main forms of alpine skiing, telemark and alpine. Downhill skiing thoroughly works your leg muscle groups, particularly hamstrings and quadriceps.

Next you can find vintage x-country skiing. To the rookie this is really a little just like walking or jogging. X-country skiing, otherwise known as Nordic skiing, is simple to understand and with one’s body weight dispersed over the surface of lengthy, straight skis, you are able to skim around over deep snowfall. It’s a good kind of exercising and an opportune method to investigate the out-of-doors in the winter season.

X-country skiing has changed into practically 2 distinct activities – 1 using the skating method and the other using the diagonal stride or traditional skiing strategy. Cross-country skiing really evolved into an Olympic discipline during the games which occurred in 1924. This specific type of skiing takes it’s identify from a kind of ski competition that’s 1 / 3 upward, 1 / 3 down and one third flat. A typical issue while cross-country skiing is the skier is working and inhaling hard, therefore eyeglasses are likely to fog up, which makes it hard to see plus depth perception can be pretty much non-existent. For a positive encounter on the other hand, back country skiing delivers substantial expanses of gentle, steady natural powder snow throughout rural as well as stunning high-mountain surroundings.

How about skiers who may have physical afflictions? Adaptive Skiing is the title of skiing performed by people who have physical afflictions. Recreational skiing packages for individuals with afflictions can be found at mountains throughout the world.

Next there’s snow-boarding. Snow boarding uses a single wide ski or board, absolutely no posts and includes similarities to surfing and skateboarding. Snow-boarding can be easier on the legs in comparison with skiing. Though snow boarding futures the traits of skiing sporting activities, this progressed out of surfing and skateboarding and thus is really not a kind of skiing.

Skiing and snow-boarding grow to be progressively more well-known with every single winter season. To become very good skier, you have to learn the right skiing approaches, work with appropriate gear not to mention like the hobby. If you’d prefer skiing, you’re certain to locate a excellent vacation resort someplace, as part of your price range, which accommodates the needs you have and caters to your capability. Soaring straight down the mountain with the blowing wind in your face and snow underfoot definitely epitomizes the activity.
